Watch ART HOUSE #1: Fleur Wickes
This is where it ALL began.
I had known and collected the work of Whanganui artist; Fleur Wickes for YEARS! So when she called me to say she was coming down, keen to catch up for a coffee in person AND did I perhaps know of somewhere she could run a pop up art show....well the answer was yes, "Pick me!", all round.
The Art House idea is actually a concept Fleur has used for years as a way to show her own work. Over her 30 year career she has shown in many galleries, but the format of a home has always sat better with her - so the stars really aligned when she bought it to mine.
After 11 years of highlighting and introducing my audience to artists, the prospect of curating and hosting my own art exhibitions was top of my list, but for some reason, had never come to fruition.
The universe just realllllly aligned with that phone call, the fact we had finished repainting our rooms and our friend had just vacated the front room after a year of living with us.
It was ON - and to undertake this adventure (which has kicked off and exciting journey) with an artist I hold in SUCH high regard was incredible to me.
Fleur's work appeals to a vast array of people due to her ability to convey moments with incredible, heart felt and familiar language. Her style is pared back and involves a great deal of process, mark making and often photography.
I was thrilled that she offered to collaborate and as a result we arrived a a very special work called " And so we travelled the heart's road home".
This is available as a Studio Print and was a limited edition of 5 special framed circular archival prints which have since sold out.
We were so lucky to have Flashworks Media on hand to capture the day plus slip some yummy refreshments to our guests thanks to The Winemakers Wife and Govino NZ.
